NICOSIA, Aug. 14 — Azerbaijan’s “Araz-Nakhchivan” have been eliminated from the UEFA Conference League after suffering a heavy defeat to Cyprus’ Omonia in the third qualifying round.
In the return leg in Nicosia, the Azerbaijani debutants conceded five unanswered goals, bringing their aggregate loss to 0–9 over the two matches.
Omonia’s Willie Semedo opened the scoring in the 9th minute, followed by Stevan Jovetić in the 23rd. Evandro struck twice in the 30th and 45+4th minutes, with Mateusz Musiałowski adding the fifth in the 79th.
In the first leg in Baku, Omonia had already secured a comfortable 4–0 victory, leaving “Araz-Nakhchivan” with a mountain to climb.
With this result, the Cypriot side advances to the play-off round, where they will face the loser of the tie between PAOK (Greece) and Wolfsberger AC (Austria).
