ROME — Sept. 11
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for the resumption of negotiations on Ukraine “from the point where they were interrupted,” urging an immediate cease-fire and warning that the conflict threatens both regional and global security.
“Peace and cease-fire talks must restart from where they were cut off,” Fidan told reporters at a joint press conference with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
“Turkey and Italy are united on the need to end this war without delay. From the outset we have repeatedly and insistently underscored the danger of escalation and the urgency of stopping it.”
Ankara has kept open channels with both Kyiv and Moscow and previously hosted early-round talks in 2022, while helping broker the Black Sea grain initiative. Fidan said Turkey remains ready to facilitate dialogue, adding that diplomacy is the only path to a sustainable peace.
Tajani echoed the call for de-escalation, with both ministers emphasizing the humanitarian and economic toll of a prolonged conflict. Neither offered a timeline for restarting talks.
