The sides also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and the United States.

The U.S. delegation included Senator Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; Jason Smith, Republican from Missouri and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee; Ronny Jackson, Republican from Texas and member of the House Armed Services Committee; and Jimmy Panetta, a Democrat from California and member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The delegation thanked President Aliyev for the reception and said the development processes they observed in Baku had left a strong impression. They also congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on the progress achieved in Washington last August toward advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

President Aliyev expressed gratitude for the congratulations, describing the reached agreements as historic and highlighting the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in the process. He said Azerbaijan would continue its efforts to advance the regional peace agenda.

Aliyev noted that trade relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have already been established. He said Azerbaijani oil products are being exported to Armenia, while wheat supplies from Kazakhstan and Russia are being delivered to Armenia via Azerbaijan’s territory. The president expressed hope that the TRIPP corridor would create new opportunities for regional transportation connectivity.

The Azerbaijani leader also said the unfair Section 907 amendment to the U.S. Freedom Support Act no longer reflects the current nature of bilateral relations. He welcomed President Trump’s decision to suspend the amendment and expressed hope that U.S. lawmakers would continue efforts toward its full repeal.
