The chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), Ali Karimli, and his adviser Mammad Ibrahim have been named suspects in the expanding criminal case involving former presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev.
According to information obtained by Report, both men were formally brought into the investigation as suspects, though no charges have yet been filed.

Searches Conducted at Residences
A day earlier, officers of the State Security Service (SSS) carried out searches at the homes of Karimli and Ibrahim. Following the searches, both were taken to the SSS for questioning.
During the investigative actions, authorities reportedly discovered documents indicating possible links to the so-called “Union of Billionaires,” as well as what was described as an unpublished early draft of a letter attributed to Ramiz Mehdiyev, along with other materials.
The APFP has rejected the claims, alleging that the documents were “planted,” though these statements have not been independently verified. The SSS has not issued public comment on the allegations.
Background on the Mehdiyev Case
Former presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev is currently under investigation on charges of attempting to seize power (Article 278.1), high treason (Article 274), and money laundering (Article 193-1.3.2).
On October 14, the Sabail District Court placed Mehdiyev under four months of house arrest pending further investigation.

Authorities have indicated that investigative procedures are continuing, and additional questioning of political figures and witnesses is expected in the coming days.
