Internet users in Azerbaijan spend most of their time online seeking entertainment and social interaction, while artificial intelligence remains a niche tool, according to new figures from the State Statistics Committee.
In 2024, 39.9% of internet consumption went to entertainment and information content — from videos and TV series to news platforms. Nearly the same share, 39.5%, was devoted to social media and civic engagement, including messaging apps, online discussions, and digital campaigns.
E-commerce and online transactions accounted for 8.5%. Despite the growth of marketplaces and digital payments, this segment still lags far behind leisure formats.
Education and self-learning represented just 1.4% of usage. Even lower was the share of artificial intelligence services: only 1.2% of Azerbaijani internet users engaged with AI tools.
Analysts note that the numbers reflect not only preferences but also technology adoption. Entertainment and social platforms have become part of daily life, while online education and AI remain marginal — partly due to low familiarity and limited content in the Azerbaijani language.
Still, the landscape may shift. Government digitalization programs and growing business interest in automation are expected to push more citizens toward AI services and educational platforms in the coming years.
For now, however, Azerbaijan’s online life remains clear: above all, it is about leisure, news, and social connection.
