Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) will resume direct flights between Baku and Tehran starting September 6, after a years-long pause in operations.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran, Ali Alizade, announced the decision on social media, noting that the relaunch comes in line with instructions from President Ilham Aliyev.

First Step: Baku–Tabriz Flight
On September 4, AZAL carried out its first post-break direct flight on the Baku–Tabriz–Baku route, operated in the evening hours. The service will initially run twice a week.
Baku–Tehran Flights Restart
According to Alizade, the Baku–Tehran–Baku flights will follow this Saturday, restoring a major air connection between the two capitals that had been suspended for several years.
