A recent survey shows that 96 percent of artificial intelligence users in Azerbaijan choose ChatGPT, leaving only a small share for rivals such as Gemini and Claude.
AI specialist Ahad Dadashov, speaking to Bizim.Media, explained that the phenomenon goes beyond technical capabilities. He pointed to psychological factors, including a sense of trust and emotional connection:
“Many users feel emotionally attached to the application, they trust it. Despite warnings not to share personal information, ChatGPT is perceived as a friend. People experience the effect of friendly communication, which can create dependence,” he said.
Dadashov recalled one case in which a user, grieving the death of his wife, said the most sincere condolences and practical advice he received came not from people, but from ChatGPT. “In such situations, ChatGPT turns into more than just a program — it becomes a virtual partner and psychologist,” the expert noted.
Brand recognition also played a major role. When the global “AI wave” reached Azerbaijan, ChatGPT was the first to establish itself in public consciousness, while competitors have remained less known.
Another factor is language adaptability. ChatGPT is able to communicate naturally in Azerbaijani, joke, express emotions, and adjust to the user’s style — features that its rivals, mostly optimized for English, still lack. This local familiarity, Dadashov said, makes ChatGPT feel closer to Azerbaijani users.
