BAKU — September 2, 2025. Azerbaijan will witness a total lunar eclipse on Sunday, September 7, the second lunar eclipse of the year. The event—often called a “Blood Moon”—will be visible across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, with prime viewing in Azerbaijan from evening to just past midnight, the Astrophysics Department of Baku State University reported.
During a total lunar eclipse, the Sun–Earth–Moon line up perfectly and Earth’s shadow fully covers the Moon. The Moon turns red-orange because sunlight is filtered and scattered through Earth’s atmosphere—letting the longer red wavelengths reach the lunar surface.
