BALAKAN, September 01, 2025 — Police carried out a special operation in rugged mountain and forest terrain, uncovering a cannabis plantation and detaining two suspects, the Interior Ministry’s Sheki regional press service said.
Officers seized 179 cannabis plants weighing 72 kg, along with a hunting shotgun, bladed weapons and other evidence. The detainees were identified as Seyfaddin Hamzatov, 62, and Zumrat Sakhrayev, 47, who allegedly admitted cultivating the plants for profit.
A criminal case has been opened; a court ordered pre-trial detention for both men. The investigation is ongoing.
