Moscow, August 31, 2025 — The Kremlin has expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will hold a conversation on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China on Monday, September 1.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS that the two leaders are expected to cross paths during the upcoming events.
“We hope that they will indeed have the opportunity tomorrow, on the sidelines of the SCO meeting, to meet,” Peskov said.

He also emphasized that Putin and Aliyev will have further opportunities for direct talks beyond the summit.
