Baku, August 31, 2025 – The Azerbaijani Archery Championship and national competitions concluded on a high note, showcasing both the country’s growing talent pool and its ambitions to further expand the sport.
Speaking to reporters after the tournament, Anar Guliyev, President of the Archery Federation of Azerbaijan, described the event as a true celebration for archery enthusiasts.
“Archery is receiving increasing attention in Azerbaijan. We strive to organize our tournaments at a higher standard each year, and the impressions from this championship are overwhelmingly positive. Gender balance was largely ensured, though female athletes – especially those under 15 – were more numerous,” Guliyev said.
He emphasized that future championships will no longer be limited to Baku. “Until now, competitions were held only in the capital – indoors in winter and outdoors in summer. Our goal is to broaden the geography, bringing tournaments to different regions of the country. New championships and cup competitions may also be established,” he added.
Looking ahead, Guliyev highlighted the importance of the upcoming 3rd CIS Games, which will take place in Azerbaijan this autumn. Archery events are scheduled to be hosted in the city of Khankendi.
“For our country, this is a major sporting milestone. Competing in Khankendi carries both great honor and responsibility. We are confident our athletes will deliver strong performances,” he noted.
