Baku — August 27, 2025
Starting August 30, Azerbaijan Railways (a subsidiary of AZCON Holding) will relaunch passenger services on the Baku–Aghdam–Baku route for the first time since 1993.
The service will be operated with modern “FLIRT” trains manufactured by the Swiss company Stadler, offering passengers a range of classes — Standard, Standard+, Business, and First Class. Free Wi-Fi will be available onboard.
Schedule and Fares
According to the schedule, trains will depart from Baku on Saturdays at 07:10 and arrive in Aghdam at 11:53. The return journey will depart Aghdam at 18:20, reaching Baku Central Station at 22:55. Stops along the route include Baku, Balajari, Ujar, Laki, Yevlakh, Barda, Kecharli, Tezekend, and Aghdam.
Ticket prices start at 12 AZN for destinations such as Barda, Kecharli, and Tezekend, while travel to Aghdam’s rail and bus terminal costs 12.80 AZN. Tickets will be available from August 27 via the official ADY website, the “ADY Mobile” app, and railway ticket offices.
Symbolic Return
To ensure smooth travel to the liberated territories, passengers purchasing tickets for the Baku–Aghdam line will automatically receive electronic travel authorization through the state portal.
Rail service to Aghdam was last suspended in 1993 during the period of occupation. Back then, the Baku–Aghdam route — part of the broader Baku–Khankendi line — took about 8.5 hours to cover 371 kilometers, with sleeper cars providing overnight travel.
“The reopening of the Baku–Aghdam railway will not only improve transport accessibility in the Karabakh economic region, but will also make a major contribution to the socio-economic revival of Aghdam and neighboring districts, expand Azerbaijan’s transport potential in the region, and support the broader Great Return process,” Azerbaijan Railways said in a statement.
