Sri Lankan Man Sentenced to 9 Months for Entering Azerbaijan on Fake Passport

Baku, August 25, 2025 – A court in Azerbaijan has sentenced a Sri Lankan citizen to nine months in prison for entering the country with a forged Malaysian passport.

According to Report.az, the Khazar District Court handed down the sentence to 31-year-old Savuthararajanan Kaswihan. Once his sentence is served, he will be deported from Azerbaijan.

The case dates back to May 30, when State Border Service officers detained a passenger arriving on a Kuwait–Baku flight at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. During passport control, officers detected signs that the document presented was fake.

Further investigation confirmed that the man was a citizen of Sri Lanka, not Malaysia as stated in the passport.
