Yerevan, August 24 — A Russian MiG-29 fighter jet caused a stir in Armenia after crashing into a metal pole and plowing through a roadside fence during transportation in Yerevan. The incident, reported by Shamshyan, forced authorities to briefly block traffic to the Erebuni airbase.
According to Sputnik Armenia, the mishap occurred when a towing system failed, causing the aircraft to roll backward. Fortunately, no one was injured and the damage was minor, allowing the convoy to resume.
But the image of a Russian warplane losing control in downtown Yerevan has quickly taken on symbolic meaning.
For many observers, it mirrors Moscow’s waning influence in Armenia: powerful in appearance, yet unable to keep its course steady.
Social media users quipped that “the MiG lost its brakes — just like Russia in the South Caucasus,” turning a technical failure into a metaphor for a shifting geopolitical reality.
