Lavrov and Fidan Discuss Outcomes of Russia–US Summit in Alaska

Moscow / Ankara, August 16, 2025Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation to exchange views on the outcomes of the Russia–US summit in Alaska held on August 15. The discussion was confirmed in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The two diplomats also reviewed the schedule for upcoming bilateral contacts, highlighting their mutual intent to maintain steady diplomatic coordination.

Turkish sources added that Fidan expressed optimism that the process initiated in Alaska could contribute to a lasting peace, provided Ukraine’s participation. He underscored that Türkiye stands ready to contribute to this effort.

On August 15, Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump met at the Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, in a summit lasting approximately three hours. The meeting comprised a private one-on-one discussion inside Trump’s limousine and a subsequent three-on-three format involving top officials: Yuri Ushakov and Sergey Lavrov representing Russia, alongside Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff from the U.S. side.
