Washington, August 11 – The August 8 trilateral meeting in Washington between U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashnyain ignited a wave of activity on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Posts using the hashtags #Azerbaijan and #IlhamAliyev surged during the summit, pushing both into trending lists in several countries. Notably, #Azerbaijan climbed to second place globally in the “News” category, reflecting the high level of online engagement and international attention on the event.
While #Armenia was also used widely in regional discussions and appeared in trends in parts of the Caucasus and diaspora communities, it did not reach the same global ranking in the “News” category as #Azerbaijan. Analysts note that much of the online discourse centered on the Azerbaijani president’s role, the peace agreement text, and the implications for the Zangezur Corridor project.
The Washington meeting was hailed as a historic milestone, with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialing the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations under the auspices of the U.S. The development is seen as a potential turning point in the decades-long conflict between the two countries.
