Tehran, August 10 – Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad has made a provocative statement about the Zangezur Corridor, claiming it is designed for conflict rather than peace.
According to the “Azad Iran” Telegram channel, Nikzad criticized the corridor project, saying: “This corridor is not intended for peace, but for war.”
He also questioned why the U.S. president, “from 13,000 kilometers away,” is intervening in regional affairs and alleged plans to place military companies in the area.
The parliamentary official urged all sides to “honor previous agreements” instead of pursuing new initiatives he framed as destabilizing.
The Zangezur Corridor — backed by Azerbaijan and recently endorsed in agreements signed in Washington — is intended to ensure unimpeded land transit between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan exclave, a project Baku says will boost regional trade and stability.
