Odesa, August 8 – Five Russian Shahed-type drones targeted an oil depot belonging to Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Ukraine’s Odesa region overnight, sparking a fire and damaging a diesel fuel pipeline, Ukrainian law enforcement told Ukrainska Pravda.
The blaze was quickly contained, but four employees sustained serious injuries and received urgent medical treatment. Authorities are assessing the scale of the damage, and emergency repair work is underway.
“While the official investigation results have not yet been released, the precise targeting of five guided drones strongly indicates the oil depot was the main objective,” investigators noted.
This marks the second recent deliberate attack on Ukrainian critical infrastructure linked to Azerbaijan. In an earlier incident, a strike hit the Orlivka gas distribution station near the Romanian border — a key facility on the Trans-Balkan pipeline, which is slated to deliver Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine.
