Airborne Dust Levels in Azerbaijan Exceed Norms by Up to 40%

BAKU, August 4, 2025 — Parts of Azerbaijan, including the capital Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and southern and central regions of the country, are experiencing elevated levels of dust in the air, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Rena Allahverdiyeva, Chief Engineer at the Ministry’s Environmental Pollution Monitoring Group, stated that current dust concentrations are 1.1 to 1.4 times above normal levels.

“The increased dust presence is transboundary in nature and is driven by meteorological factors,” she said. “It has entered Azerbaijan through eastern and southeastern winds blowing from neighboring regions.”

According to Allahverdiyeva, the dusty conditions are expected to persist for approximately three days, depending on weather dynamics.
