Hundreds of Vehicles Stuck at Azerbaijan’s Border Checkpoints

BAKU, August 4, 2025 — Long queues of vehicles have formed at several of Azerbaijan’s border crossings, with customs posts on the country’s frontiers with Georgia, Iran, and Russia reporting significant congestion.

According to the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA), 120 vehicles are currently waiting at the “Red Bridge” checkpoint on the Georgian border.

The bottlenecks are not limited to the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. At the Astara checkpoint on the Iranian border, 84 freight trucks are queued up. A similar backlog of 84 vehicles has been reported at the Samur checkpoint on the Russian border. Meanwhile, 35 trucks are currently delayed at the Mazymgara checkpoint.

In contrast, no congestion has been observed at the Khanoba and Bilasuvar checkpoints, which are operating under normal conditions.

The agency has not specified the reasons for the delays, but transport industry representatives cite seasonal traffic surges, infrastructure limitations, and cross-border customs procedures as likely contributing factors.
