Azerbaijan Imposes Import Restrictions on Livestock and Poultry from Spain, Croatia, and Bulgaria

BAKU, August 4 — The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) has introduced temporary restrictions on the import of all types of live cattle, small ruminants, poultry, and poultry products from several countries, including Spain, Croatia, and Bulgaria.

According to AFSA, the decision follows reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) confirming outbreaks of infectious diseases in the specified regions. Cases of bluetongue disease were registered in the Southeast Statistical Region of North Macedonia and the Split-Dalmatia County of Croatia. Newcastle disease was reported in Bulgaria’s Yambol Province, while highly pathogenic avian influenza was detected in Spain’s Castile-La Mancha region and Botswana’s Chobe District.

To safeguard Azerbaijan’s territory from the potential spread of these animal diseases, AFSA has imposed import bans in line with WOAH’s Terrestrial Animal Health Code. The restrictions apply to live cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and their products, as well as to live poultry and poultry-derived goods originating from the affected regions.
