U.S. Senators Propose $54.6 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine

WASHINGTON, August 1, 2025 — A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has introduced a bill that would allocate $54.6 billion in aid to Ukraine over the next two years, The New York Times reports.

The legislation was co-authored by Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire and senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. The proposed package includes direct military support as well as funding to replenish U.S. stockpiles depleted by previous aid to Ukraine.

Under the bill, up to one-third of the funds would be sourced from revenues generated by frozen Russian assets and proceeds from arms sales to European allies.

A significant portion of the aid is earmarked for the purchase of advanced weaponry to replace older systems already supplied to Ukraine. The proposal also seeks to expand the president’s authority to approve arms transfers to Kyiv without requiring prior congressional approval.
