Iranian authorities support the acceleration of the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to WANA News Agency, this was stated by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei at a press conference.
According to him, the Islamic Republic calls on both countries to continue work on this issue. He emphasized the importance Iran attaches to the peaceful resolution of disputes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia.
He noted that Tehran has always supported the development of transport routes, considering it an important factor for economic development.
“We agree with the expansion of routes. However, the development of routes should not lead to changes in the geopolitics of the region or in recognized borders,” Public Radio of Armenia said I. Baqaei. He also added that the involvement of non-regional actors does not contribute to stability.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson also stressed that Iran’s position on developments in the South Caucasus has not changed. Iran’s stance against any changes in geopolitical borders remains unchanged. Tehran is closely monitoring developments and maintains contact with both Yerevan and Baku.
