BAKU, July 26, 2025 — Azerbaijan is ready to provide all necessary conditions for hosting peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Baku, should both parties express interest.
This was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan, in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
Hajiyev emphasized that Baku has already earned a reputation as the diplomatic capital of the Caspian region by hosting major international negotiations.
“If our friends and partners — Russia and Ukraine — wish to meet in Azerbaijan, we would be very pleased to host them. Baku is already the diplomatic hub of the Caspian region. It has previously hosted talks between Turkey and Israel, and even between Damascus and Tel Aviv. Strategic negotiations between Moscow and Washington on missile defense systems, as well as Russia–NATO talks, were also held in Azerbaijan. More recently, Baku has quietly hosted numerous diplomatic efforts. We welcome everyone, but we cannot force anyone — they must reach out to us themselves,” Hajiyev said.
