How to Properly Transport Pets in the Baku Metro: What Owners Should Know

BAKU — July 26, 2025 — As urbanization transforms natural landscapes into sprawling cityscapes, wild animals have given way to domesticated pets that now form an integral part of urban family life. In Baku, like in many modern cities, pets are considered full-fledged members of the household — walked in parks, cared for meticulously, and included in everyday routines.

But moving around with animals in public transport — especially in a crowded system like the metro — comes with specific challenges and is governed by strict regulations.

According to the official “Rules for Using the Baku Metro,” transporting sick animals or birds is strictly prohibited. This is to avoid discomfort for other passengers and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

However, the rules do allow for the free transport of small domestic animals and birds, provided they are kept in appropriate containers or cages. These containers must meet size regulations and completely prevent animals from exiting on their own.

Loose or unrestrained animals are strictly banned on metro trains. Ensuring safe and responsible pet transport helps maintain comfort and hygiene in one of the city’s busiest public spaces.
