ISTANBUL, July 25, 2025 — Azerbaijani athletes claimed two gold medals at the ongoing European Youth Paralympic Games in Istanbul, Turkey.
The country’s first top podium finish came from 16-year-old para-taekwondo fighter Samaya Hasanova, who triumphed in the under-47 kg weight category. Shortly after, Sabir Zeynalov added to the gold tally by securing victory in the under-58 kg division.
In addition to the gold medals, Azerbaijan also earned two bronze: judoka Omar Gurbanov (under-62 kg) and para-taekwondo athlete Ayhan Nuriyev (under-58 kg) both placed third in their respective events.
The strong showing underscores Azerbaijan’s rising profile in Paralympic sports and highlights the talent of its emerging generation of para-athletes.
