WASHINGTON, July 25, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent announcement that France will officially recognize the State of Palestine, saying the statement carries no weight.
“What he says doesn’t matter. I respect him, but his words are meaningless. His declaration holds no weight,” Trump told reporters, according to Reuters.
Macron had earlier stated that France would formally recognize Palestine at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly in September. He also emphasized the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.
Trump’s comments signal a sharp divergence between the United States and France on the issue of Palestinian statehood, adding to growing international tensions over the Gaza conflict.
