BAKU, July 25, 2025 — Azerbaijan’s national judo team wrapped up its campaign at the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam in Mongolia without securing any medals.
According to Oxu.az, three Azerbaijani judokas who competed today fell short of the podium.
In the men’s 60kg weight class, Turan Bayramov came closest to a medal but lost in the bronze medal bout. His teammates Balabey Agayev (60kg) and Elshan Asadov (66kg) were eliminated in the earlier stages of the competition.
The tournament, part of the International Judo Federation’s Grand Slam series, kicked off earlier this week in the Mongolian capital. Hopes were high as all three athletes were scheduled to compete on the opening day.
Agayev faced the winner of the match between Konstantinos Simeonidis (UAE) and Mendsaikhan Nyamsuren (Mongolia), while Bayramov took on the victor of the Sumiyabazar Enkhtaivan (Mongolia) vs. Yuantao Wang (China) bout.
In the 66kg division, Asadov met Mongolia’s Tsantsandorj Unurbat in the Round of 32 but was unable to advance.
Despite the team’s disappointment, the competition provided valuable experience ahead of upcoming international events.
