YEREVAN, July 24 — Armenia has turned down a proposal from the United States to lease a 42-kilometer stretch of road through the Syunik province—part of the route often referred to as the Zangezur Corridor.
According to Armenian media, the statement was made by Arman Yeghoyan, chair of the Armenian National Assembly’s Committee on European Integration and a member of the ruling Civil Contract party.
“We saw a threat to our sovereignty,” Yeghoyan said.
He added that the Armenian government remains open to discussions on unblocking regional transport links, but only within a framework that respects sovereignty, legal jurisdiction, reciprocity, and territorial integrity.
