An Exhibition of Azerbaijani Carpets Opens in Georgia

MARNEULI, Georgia | July 24, 2025 — A vibrant exhibition celebrating Azerbaijan’s traditional carpet weaving heritage has opened in the courtyard of the Marneuli Public Library in southern Georgia.

As reported by Report, the event aims to preserve and promote the centuries-old craft of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, particularly as practiced in the Borchali region — home to a large ethnic Azerbaijani community.

The exhibition showcased intricate handmade carpets produced by members of the carpet weaving studio at the Marneuli Cultural Center. The event drew participation from local artisans, art enthusiasts, and cultural representatives from the diverse communities in the area.

Speaking at the opening, Cultural Center director Nato Shavishvili emphasized the significance of the project:

“Several years ago, we became deeply interested in this national art form and decided to establish an Azerbaijani carpet weaving studio at our center. Our primary goal is to ensure that this rich cultural heritage is not forgotten and continues to be passed down through generations.”

The exhibition is one of several initiatives in the region aimed at fostering cultural preservation and interethnic harmony through shared appreciation of traditional arts.
