Azerbaijani Taekwondo Fighter Defeats Armenian Opponent at European Youth

TBILISI, July 23, 2025 — Azerbaijani taekwondo athlete Mehdi Budagly scored a confident victory over Armenia’s Sergey Davtyan in the opening round of the 18th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), currently underway in Georgia.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, taekwondo competitions officially kicked off today, with three Azerbaijani athletes representing the country on day one.

Budagly, a reigning world and European youth champion, competes in the under-48 kg weight category. He advanced from the first round by default after his initial opponent failed to show. In his next bout, he faced Davtyan and secured a decisive win, earning a place in the round of 16, where he will go up against Altug Keske of Turkey.
