Croatian Fans Mock Qarabağ’s New Signing: “Take Him, Keep Him for 20 Years”

Ağdam-based football club Qarabağ has signed Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb’s defender Sami Mmaee on a one-year loan deal—but the reaction from Croatian fans has been far from celebratory.

As reported by Oxu.Az, Dinamo Zagreb’s social media announcement about Mmaee’s departure—and Qarabağ’s confirmation of the transfer—has been flooded with sarcastic comments from Croatian supporters. The general sentiment? Relief.

Fans didn’t hold back in their criticism of the 27-year-old center-back, with one commenting:

“I want you good luck. I’m a Dinamo fan and Sammy is not a good player.”

Another wrote:

“That was the worst CB player in Dinamo Zagreb history… thank you Qarabag, you will see pure quality.”

Other sarcastic remarks included:

“Thank you, Qarabag, thank you, thank you… you will have ‘fun’ with your new ‘player’.”
“Take him, Azeris, and keep him for another 20 years.”

One fan even quipped in Croatian:

“When I watched Sammy, I seriously started believing that someone from the street could give more to Dinamo’s defense just by leaving their heart on the pitch.”

Another simply stated:

“It’s been a long time since Dinamo had such a weak player.”

Sami Mmaee began his professional career at Standard Liège in Belgium and went on to play for MVV Maastricht (Netherlands), Sint-Truiden (Belgium), Ferencváros (Hungary), and most recently Dinamo Zagreb. Notably, he played the full 90 minutes in both legs against Qarabağ during the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League play-off round. Internationally, Mmaee has made 10 appearances for the Moroccan national team.
