Iran Halts Uranium Enrichment After U.S. Strikes, But Vows to Resume Program

July 22, 2025 | Tehran — Iran has temporarily suspended its uranium enrichment activities following recent U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities but insists it has no intention of abandoning the program, calling it a matter of national pride.

The announcement came from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during an interview with Fox News, where he addressed the aftermath of what he described as “serious damage” caused by the airstrikes.

“Enrichment is currently paused due to the significant damage inflicted,” Araghchi said. “However, it’s clear we will not give up this process. Uranium enrichment represents a major achievement of our scientists — and now more than ever, it is a symbol of our national pride.”

The foreign minister emphasized that Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization is currently assessing the full extent of the damage to enrichment facilities and evaluating the condition of its enriched uranium stockpiles.

While Araghchi did not provide a timeline for resumption, his comments reaffirm Iran’s longstanding position that enrichment is non-negotiable — a stance likely to fuel further tensions with the West amid renewed diplomatic uncertainty over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
