Armenia and Azerbaijan Discuss Peace Agreement and OSCE Minsk Group Dissolution

YEREVAN, July 21 — Armenia and Azerbaijan are actively engaged in discussions on the potential signing of a peace agreement and the formal dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, according to statements from the Armenian government.

Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, confirmed the developments to local media outlets.

“Regarding the dissolution of the Minsk Group and the possible signing of a peace treaty — this is a clear part of Armenia’s current agenda,” Baghdasaryan said. “Active discussions are underway.”

The Minsk Group, co-chaired by France, Russia, and the United States, was established in the 1990s under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. However, its relevance has sharply diminished since the 2020 war and subsequent peace efforts led primarily by regional powers.

The latest round of talks between Baku and Yerevan signals continued momentum toward formalizing a post-conflict framework, though significant disagreements remain, including issues related to borders, transport corridors, and security guarantees.
