Ukraine Proposes New Round of Peace Talks with Russia Next Week

KYIV, July 19 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kyiv has proposed a new round of peace negotiations with Russia to take place next week, in an effort to accelerate dialogue between the two sides.

The proposal was put forward by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian delegation at previous talks in Istanbul. Zelensky made the announcement in a video address posted on his official Telegram channel, saying, “Secretary Umerov has offered the Russian side to meet next week. The pace of negotiations must increase.”

Earlier, on July 17, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told TASS that Moscow was awaiting formal proposals from Kyiv regarding a third round of negotiations. He noted that while earlier agreements are still being implemented, Ukraine would eventually need to take a clear position.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova later commented that talks have “stalled on Ukraine’s end,” suggesting Kyiv has either avoided confirming or has not yet decided on a date for the next round. She reiterated that the Russian delegation remains ready to return to Istanbul for discussions and expressed hope that Ukraine would engage “in the spirit of the agreements already reached.”
