Butter Production Declines in Azerbaijan Despite Surging Food Output

BAKU, July 19 — Azerbaijan has seen a notable decline in butter production during the first half of 2025, even as the overall food manufacturing sector reported significant growth.

According to the State Statistics Committee, 13,269.6 tons of butter were produced between January and June — a 4.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

Interestingly, despite the production slowdown, national butter reserves stood at 153.2 tons as of July 1, more than three times higher than the same time last year.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s broader food industry expanded, with total output reaching 2.63 billion manats in the first six months of the year — a 12% increase year-on-year.

The data points to shifting dynamics in domestic production and demand. While the food sector continues to grow overall, the decline in butter output may reflect changing consumption patterns, rising import reliance, or industry-specific challenges.
