Azerbaijani Wrestlers Claim Two Silver Medals on Opening Day of Budapest Ranking Tournament

BUDAPEST, July 17 — Two Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers secured silver medals on the opening day of the international ranking tournament held in Hungary’s capital.

Team Azerbaijan was represented by three athletes on Day 1. Islam Bazarganov (57 kg) and Ali Rahimzade (65 kg) both reached the finals in their respective weight categories, ultimately finishing with silver. The third competitor, Kenan Heybatov (70 kg), was eliminated in the opening round.

Olympic medalist and European champion Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg), who was expected to be one of Azerbaijan’s top contenders, withdrew from the competition due to injury.
