Yerevan – July 16 — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that normalizing relations with Turkey is the only strategic option available to Armenia, addressing growing public skepticism over ongoing diplomatic efforts between Yerevan and Ankara.
“If we don’t pursue reconciliation with Turkey, what alternatives does Armenia really have?” Pashinyan asked during a press conference, according to Armenian media.
Responding to domestic criticism of the normalization process, the prime minister challenged those opposed to improved ties with Turkey to consider the consequences of rejecting dialogue.
“Do they believe the path forward is conflict with a country like Turkey? Do we even grasp what that would mean?” Pashinyan said.
His remarks reflect the government’s continued push for regional stability, despite historical grievances and complex geopolitical tensions. The normalization talks, which began in 2022 with special envoys from both countries, have yet to yield concrete breakthroughs, but remain a focal point of Armenia’s foreign policy amid shifting dynamics in the South Caucasus.
