WASHINGTON, July 15, 2025 — Mike Waltz, the nominee for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, suggested that Azerbaijan could become the next country to join the Abraham Accords, potentially forging closer ties with both Israel and Armenia.
Speaking at his Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing, Waltz highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing interest in strengthening relations with Washington and exploring regional peace initiatives.
“Azerbaijan is seeking closer alignment with the United States and may even consider agreements with both Armenia and Israel under the framework of the Abraham Accords,” Waltz told lawmakers. “Such developments could unlock major commercial opportunities for American businesses and reshape the region’s geopolitical landscape.”
Waltz’s nomination marks his return to the spotlight after a controversial tenure as a national security adviser to President Donald Trump, during which he was dismissed over allegations related to sharing classified military plans in the Signal messaging app.
