Baku, July 14, 2025 — Azerbaijani Premier League club Neftchi Baku has officially completed the signing of Venezuelan midfielder Freddy Vargas on a one-year loan from Israeli side Maccabi Netanya.
The 26-year-old winger joins the capital club after both sides reached an agreement that will see Neftchi pay €175,000 for the loan deal. Notably, the agreement does not include an option for a permanent transfer.
Vargas, who has earned three caps for Venezuela’s national team, has built a reputation as a creative and industrious attacker. Over the course of his career, he has tallied 28 goals and 22 assists in 234 appearances, including four goals and eight assists during his spell at Maccabi Netanya.
Neftchi hopes Vargas will add attacking depth and playmaking quality as the club pushes for domestic and continental success in the upcoming season. The loan will keep Vargas at the Baku-based side until summer 2026.
