Deadly Building Collapse in Tbilisi Leaves One Dead, One Injured

Tbilisi, July 14, 2025 — A five-story residential building collapsed near the central railway station in Georgia’s capital, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality and one injury, according to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene to assist with evacuations and search operations. Authorities confirmed that the structure was previously deemed unsafe.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated that city officials had repeatedly urged residents to relocate, offering alternative housing, but some refused to leave.

“This building was in an emergency condition. The municipality had made several offers to the residents to move into safer apartments, but some declined,” Kaladze said in a public statement.

One person remains hospitalized, while rescue efforts continue amid concerns that others may be trapped under the rubble. Authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse and the refusal by some residents to evacuate despite prior warnings.
