Iran’s foreign ministry has confirmed that the country’s relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will undergo significant changes following a new law limiting cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
“Our cooperation with the agency has not ended, but it will take a new form,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He added that requests for inspections of nuclear facilities “will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with national security concerns taken into account.”
The statement comes amid growing tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and follows the passage of legislation aimed at scaling back transparency measures in response to international pressure and sanctions.
While Iranian officials insist that they remain committed to peaceful nuclear development, the move marks a notable shift in policy — one that could complicate future negotiations with Western powers and further strain Tehran’s relations with international institutions.
