Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally demanded a retraction from a media outlet following a report alleging that Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan acquired property using funds of “unclear origin,” local media report.
The controversial article claimed that in 2022, Mirzoyan’s wife, Goar Abajyan, purchased a home in the Nairi community of Kotayk Province for 112 million drams (approximately $280,000). The publication speculated that part of the funding may have come from the sale of Mirzoyan’s apartment for 34 million drams (about $85,000), while the source of the remaining funds allegedly remains unclear and unreported in asset declarations.
In response, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated that all relevant information had been fully disclosed in Goar Abajyan’s official asset declaration. She emphasized that the remaining amount was covered by a loan taken out in Abajyan’s name, and urged journalists to refrain from misrepresenting facts when covering the financial disclosures of public officials.
According to prior public filings, in 2024 Ararat Mirzoyan declared ownership of two properties—an apartment and a house—as well as nearly $30,000 in bank savings and 2.8 million drams (roughly $7,000) in cash.
