Peace Deal Between Azerbaijan and Armenia Seen as a Game-Changer for the South Caucasus

The peace agreement currently in the works between Azerbaijan and Armenia holds strategic significance not just for the two countries involved, but for the broader South Caucasus and Eurasian region, says Giorgi Khaindrava, a political analyst and former Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution.

Speaking to Report, Khaindrava emphasized that the long-standing strategic partnership between Baku and Tbilisi could serve as a model for regional cooperation.

“Our mutual support since gaining independence is clear and ongoing. It stands as the most successful example of collaboration in the Caucasus,” he said. “Azerbaijan’s role in the region is critical. Peace isn’t just about bilateral relations—it’s a defining issue for the entire South Caucasus, which sits at a vital crossroads linking Asia and Europe.”

Khaindrava also praised the constructive approach of President Ilham Aliyev during his recent meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Abu Dhabi.

“President Aliyev knows exactly what he wants and how to achieve it. His extended hand is, in essence, a hand of peace extended to the entire region. That gesture carries enormous weight,” the former minister said.

Observers view the developing dialogue as a turning point that could open the door to economic integration, regional security cooperation, and a new chapter in Caucasus diplomacy.
