A social media storm has erupted in Azerbaijan after images and videos emerged allegedly showing peaches sprayed with aerosol paint to enhance their appearance. The footage has triggered widespread concern over food safety and the integrity of produce sold in local markets.
In response to the controversy, reporters from Khezer Kheber visited several major markets to investigate the claims.
“All the peaches we sell are locally grown by Azerbaijani farmers. There is absolutely no artificial coloring involved,” vendors told reporters, dismissing the allegations as baseless.
However, nutrition expert Mehseti Huseynova issued a stark warning about the potential health risks of artificially colored fruits.
“Chemical dyes used on food can cause severe poisoning, allergic reactions, and even lead to chronic illnesses if consumed regularly. Consumers must stay vigilant,” she cautioned.
Food safety specialists advise shoppers to:
Ask about the origin of fruits and vegetables;
Wash produce thoroughly before consumption;
Peel fruit skins if there is any doubt about their safety.
As public scrutiny grows, authorities may soon face mounting pressure to investigate and regulate food safety practices more stringently across the country.
