Armenia Weighs Proposal to Grant U.S. Company Control Over Strategic Zangezur Corridor

Must read

YEREVAN — Armenia is considering a proposal to transfer operational control of the proposed Zangezur Corridor to an American company, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan said in remarks cited by Civic news outlet.

“If the proposal fully aligns with our declared principles, it may be implemented,” Safaryan stated, without naming the company under consideration or providing further details on the terms being discussed.

The Zangezur Corridor, a long-discussed transportation link, would connect mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave via southern Armenia, facilitating both road and rail infrastructure. The project also holds broader regional significance, potentially providing Azerbaijan with direct access to Turkey and deepening cross-border economic integration.

The corridor has been a key point of contention in ongoing peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, particularly in the wake of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Armenia has expressed concern over sovereignty and security implications, while Azerbaijan views the corridor as a critical component of post-conflict regional connectivity.
