Yerevan – Armenia’s Investigative Committee has announced the detention of seven individuals on suspicion of terrorism-related activities. According to local media, all of the suspects are members of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation, commonly known as Dashnaktsutyun.
In a statement released by the committee, one of the detainees has already been formally charged under Article 43-308 (Part 1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to preparation for acts of terrorism.
Authorities say the arrests were made as part of a broader investigation under articles related to terror plot preparations and the illegal possession of firearms, explosives, and related devices.
Law enforcement officials conducted multiple raids at various locations, seizing a cache of weapons and equipment, including:
An electric detonator designed for remote explosions,
A live grenade and fuse,
Gunpowder,
Radio communication devices, and other materials deemed relevant to the investigation.
The committee stated that urgent procedural actions are ongoing and did not rule out further arrests.
This development comes amid heightened political tensions in Armenia, where the government has recently faced criticism for a crackdown on opposition figures and clergy. Critics allege that authorities are using national security pretexts to suppress dissent ahead of potential early elections.
