Turkey Connects Gas Network to Syria, Eyes Near-Term Energy Exports

Must read

Vienna, July 9 — Turkey has completed the physical connection of its natural gas infrastructure to neighboring Syria and plans to begin gas exports in the near future, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced at the 9th OPEC International Seminar.

“We have recently connected our gas network with Syria’s,” Bayraktar said. “We plan to begin delivering gas to Syria very soon.”

The gas is expected to be used primarily for electricity generation, with the broader goal of supporting reconstruction efforts and contributing to the normalization of life in Syria, he added.

Bayraktar also noted that Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR could join the project as a strategic partner, pointing to regional cooperation on energy security.

The move follows a recent statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who said Azerbaijan is prepared to supply Syria with natural gas as part of a broader regional energy strategy.
