Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan expressed support for advancing political solutions to ongoing conflicts and easing regional tensions, according to a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry following their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
“The ministers held a thorough exchange of views on the current international situation,” the statement read. “Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination between their foreign ministries to help de-escalate tensions and promote political settlement of ongoing conflicts.”
The two diplomats also reviewed key issues on the bilateral agenda, with a focus on the implementation of strategic energy projects.
“They assessed the outlook for expanding cooperation in light of the outcomes of the 19th session of the Russian-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation,” the ministry noted. “The ministers also exchanged views on a range of pressing international and regional challenges.”
The meeting highlights Russia and Turkey’s continued diplomatic engagement amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region.
