Between January and November of last year, Azerbaijan imported 8.4 million roses worth $11.2 million, according to calculations by Report based on official statistics from the State Statistics Committee.
Compared to the same period of 2024, rose imports increased by 20% in value terms and 23% in volume, reflecting growing domestic demand for cut flowers.
The largest supplier remained Ecuador, which exported roses to Azerbaijan worth $8.1 million, up 11% year-on-year. Shipments from Ecuador totaled 5.4 million roses, a 7% increase compared to the previous year.
Other major suppliers included:
Colombia – $1 million (+32%), 771,000 roses (+36%)
Kenya – $894,000 (+37%), 624,000 roses (+12%)
Iran – $634,000 (up more than sixfold), 1.11 million roses (up more than ninefold)
Netherlands – $172,000 (-14%), 141,000 roses (-20%)
The report also notes that for the first time in 14 years, Azerbaijan imported roses from new markets. Supplies were recorded from Ethiopia ($29,000; 22,800 roses) and Georgia ($6,000; 12,000 roses).
(Official publicly available foreign trade statistics date back to 2011.)
Analysts say the rise in imports reflects both stronger consumer demand and a diversification of supply sources, as Azerbaijan expands its network of flower-import partners beyond traditional markets.
